Frank and Linda have been going out for eight-and-a-half years. They met while taking the same anthropology class at a medium size, rural, liberal arts college located in the far Western part of the United States. While they were only good pals at first, they finally started to date when they were in their first year of college.
Due to the fact both of them came from very conservative backgrounds, neither one of them drank much beyond the testing stage when they first began dating. As the time proceeded, nonetheless, they started to go to more happy hours, football bashes, sorority and fraternity parties, and keg parties. As a result, they slowly but surely began to drink more the more they saw one another.
After they graduated, they both found jobs in a relatively small city that was roughly seventy miles from their undergraduate college. Then they finally decided to move in with each other.
With any important modification in a person's life there is normally something that prompts the specific modification in question. For Linda and Frank the thought of having children and buying a new house was this "source of change." To come to the point, for the first time in their lives, Linda and Frank began to critically assess their hazardous and irresponsible drinking and the long term adverse effects of alcohol on their lives. From a different slant on things, even though neither one of them ever experienced alcohol poisoning, received a DWI arrest, or experienced alcohol poisoning symptoms, they understood that their irresponsible drinking was becoming an issue that they could not discount anymore. All of these queries without a doubt resulted in the same conclusion, namely that Frank and Linda needed to comprehend more clearly that they couldn't maintain their irresponsible drinking if their goals, aspirations, and dreams were to be accomplished.
Once they arrived at this conclusion, they notified their drinking pals about their their goal of buying or building a new house, about their marital plans, and about their plans to start a family. They also told their drinking buddies that they still wanted to hang around with them but that they would be drinking responsibly from this point forward so that they could start realizing their future aspirations, goals, and dreams.
Unexpectedly, all of their pals expressed relief because they too had been recalculating their lives and concluded that their life-styles were much too frequently focused on drinking. They also thought that they would have to change notably if they were to become more responsible and show more consideration for their goals, their careers, and for their health in the next ten or fifteen years.
After their conversation with their buddies about their plans, dreams, and hopes, Frank and Linda in essence started to have more meaningful relationships with all of their friends. The key reason for this was the fact that all of them had a similar mentality regarding their excessive and hazardous drinking and their short and long-term plans, goals, and aspirations.
