Benchmade 710 - Get The High End Multi Purpose Folding Knife
The Benchmade 710 appears simple enough, and it is, but it's the end product of a lot of hard work and perseverance by Bill McHenry and Jason Williams over the course of 4 years. It features the AXIS lock, that was also designed by Bill and Jason. The lock will allow for comfortable one-handed opening and closing of the blade, and is totally ambidextrous. The lock design is easy to control without instructions needed on how the knife works.
Simpleness of the lock is not the main selling point, its brute strength is. Through testing, the lock withstood a weight of over 200 pounds without damage. When the lock finally failed, the liners merely cracked over the locking pin but never would the blade have closed on the user hand in testing.
The AXIS lock has two Omega shaped springs. This design gives exceptional functional redundancy. The springs are stressed a bit. Several tests show they should last indefinitely. Even though one spring fails, the other will still perform with no any problems.
It is hard to say if this really is the strongest lock created in folding knives. Benchmade claims that it's surely more strong than most of the conventional lock-back and liner-locking knives. The considerable 3.9" D2 Tool Steel blade of the 710 features a reverse-curve grind for improved cutting power.
A detachable stainless steel pocket clip is located on the base end of the knife. The base end place of the clip is essential as a result of the locking mechanism. The knife would protrude very far out the pocket if the clip were positioned on the pivot end.
