Country Western Music - Love It Or Hate It, You Most Likely Have An Opinion!
Everybody has their critiques. We start forming likes and dislikes from an incredibly early age. Some of our evaluations are formed based on our own experiences and others we form based upon what we hear from the people around us. Children readily pick up what the grown-ups around them are saying. This is the reason most family members belong to the same political party and practice the exact same religion; it's what they grew up with. A good deal of what we value comes from what we were exposed to as children. Now & then we find that we change our opinion on something once we have experienced it for ourselves because the opinion was based on what we were taught rather than from individual experience.
In the family I grew up in my father liked to have things quiet. He worked quite hard at his job & running a farm so when he sat down for the evening he did not like plenty of noise or activity going on around him. We could have the tv on low or he would put on tapes of classical music. It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on and country-western music, even country wedding songs, or rock & roll would come on he would tell us to turn it off. He did not understand rock and roll & he thought country western music was cheesey, even the love ballads and country wedding songs. I was exposed to rock and roll through my friends, radio and dances & like it. I did not listen to country western music at all. I held my father's opinion of it. Then I started a dating a young man in college that listened to country western music all the time. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that most of the songs told.
I really liked him so when we began dating I put up with the music and tuned it out. We then went to a large outdoor concert that featured numerous of the hottest country western bands. From that time on I was hooked. I discovered that I also liked the stories the songs told and the music was amusing to dance to. At the out-of-doors concert event I met several of my boyfriend's friends. They taught me how to line dance to some of the songs. I slow-danced to some ballads and country wedding songs. After university I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. Eventually I married my present husband & we're raising our family. I still listen to all kinds of music, but every time I hear western-country music I think back to that concert and how I came to appreciate it. I aim to let my kids experience many different things growing up and try not to influence their evaluations.
